Hengtong Signed the Landing Party Agreement with Telecom Egypt for PEACE

The Landing Party Agreement for PEACE cable system was signed between Telecom Egypt, Hengtong and PCCW Global on 27th April, 2019 in Beijing during the second One Belt And One Road summit. In the presence of the minister of telecommunication of Egypt Dr. Amr Talaat and the chairman of Hengtong Group Mr. Cui Genliang, Mr. Adel Hamed, CEO of Telecom Egypt, Mr. Wu Qianjun, VP of Hengtong Group and CEO of PEACE, Mr. Jordick Wong, senior VP of PCCW Global, together signed the agreement. Also Mr. Tan Huiliang, the CEO of Hengtong International Business Unit signed the strategic cooperation LOI with Telecom Egypt. According to the deal, both parties will keep enhancing the cooperation with each other, including Telecom Egypt purchasing fiber cables from Hengtong and Hengtong buying the crossing Egypt fiber from Telecom Egypt.

PEACE is the first Chinese netural submarine cable system. It was kicked off in Q4 2017 and will be ready for service in 2020. It will connect Pakistan, Djibouti, France, Kenya and cross Egypt as well. The LPAs for Djibouti and Pakistan were already signed. The PEACE project is progressed well and the cable is under manufacturing currently. It will be extended southwards to South Africa and eastwards to South East Asia in the future.

During the One Belt and One Road summit, Mr. Adel Hamed and Mr. Cui Genliang held the talks.

Mr. Cui Genliang said:"Thanks for Mr. Adel Hamed’s supporting for Hengtong. we aim not only to be the products and system supplier globally, but also to be the submarine cable system operator. About 6 years ago, Hengtong begun the cooperation with Telecom Egypt. We supplied our best products and services. In 2018, Hengtong invest in Egypt to set a fiber cable factory, making our products localization in Egypt so we made our cooperation closer. And now Hengtong invest the PEACE cable system with the latest technology,and it will cross Egypt and connect Asia, Africa and Europe. We signed the LPA today which is a milestone for PEACE cable system. That means we are building another highway bridge between Telecom Egypt and Hengtong. We hope to continue this long-term cooperation."

Mr. Adel Hamed  said:“I am very pleased with the signing of the landing party and crossing agreement as this marks the addition of another cable system to Telecom Egypt’s huge network of submarine cables crossing Egypt exhibiting clearly that Egypt is the ideal digital route and partner of choice for international traffic from the East to the West.”
